A New Avenue for My Music?

I have discovered something interesting. Other than my Exit World YouTube channel I do have another one that has a couple of videos with a million plus views and over 7,300 subscribers at the moment. The high number of views and subscribers happened this past spring when I created some compilation videos of a TV show. I had no idea I was going to get this sort of response. In fact, my first million-view video happened within just 4 weeks of uploading it. It is now at over 2 million and my subscriber count has skyrocketed from what it was before this video.

My discovery is this: anything that I upload to this channel immediately gets views and likes. Some of course get a lot more than others. But I have decided that I can use this to my advantage. I will upload some of my own original creations on this channel. Not the 'from the archives' material but my better quality material.

I have done so today. I uploaded my "In Excelsis Medley" recording from a few years back onto this channel and in about 12 hours time it has 75 views and 6 likes. There is no way it would have anything even remotely close to this on my Exit World channel. So it will be interesting to see where this goes and how many views it will have by Christmas. This may even be a way to get some sales for my music, though at the particular moment this track is not available for purchase anywhere.

I did not just upload the song, however. I took the cover of the Christmas EP I released some years ago and added some animated snowfall to it. A good visual helps promote any audio recording.

That's one bit of potential good news. In another bit, I was working on another instrumental song to use as background music for some videos. But the song was turning out so well that the thought came into my head to write some lyrics for it and turn it into a Christmas song. So I've been working on that and that's the route I'm going now. This will be a holiday tune perhaps for a single release or an EP release if I can get a few more songs recorded within the next 4-6 weeks or so. But I am really excited for this song particularly since I haven't made any new songs this year with the exception of the 2 that served as background music.

'We're Gonna Make It' Video

I made a video for the song "We're Gonna Make It" from my new album "Milestone." This version is just slightly different from the album version in that I trimmed out the fade-in portion of the beginning. A fellow musician had suggested not having a fade-in at all but it was something I never used before and I wanted to extend the song a bit. But for the YouTube version I eliminated the fade-in which in turn shortened the overall length of the song.

In The Studio

It's been a few weeks since I posted here. It's very difficult trying to write consistently when there is so much else to do. Plus now I'm working on recording a new song (Call On Me) and trying to get it done by the end of the year.

I'm still getting requests for tabs on my YouTube channel. I'm not sending out my tabs anymore, especially since the people asking aren't even subscribing to my channel as I have requested. All the tabs are pretty much here on this blog. And I'm sad to say that I have not received any donations. Sigh. So hard trying to make a buck. Even when you are providing a service. And I could use it now more than ever.

I am happy to declare that this blog has now been viewed more times in the 2 months that it has existed than the very first blog I created nearly 2 years ago. Very nice! Now I wish that would translate to some monetary benefit.

I do have one more tab to put up here. And there is a tab I need to create for one of my videos. That video being "Heart of the Country" by Paul McCartney. That one's been one of my most popular covers. The tab for that song might take a while to make.

The Christmas season always sneaks up so quickly and suddenly. I've been wanting for several years to make a Christmas album of some very simply arranged holiday tunes. The trouble is getting into the mood for Christmas anytime earlier than Thanksgiving. And then by that time it would be impossible to come up with 10 solid recordings by Christmas. So maybe I'll just do one or two a year. Or do the brunt of it after Christmas since it's always hard for me to stop playing Christmas even weeks after the holidays have passed.

I had another idea recently for a project I want to work on. I was thinking about recording an album of some of covers of some of my favorite 60s tunes. Instrumental covers. The first song I would like to do is "Gimme Some Lovin" by the Spencer Davis Group. I think that would be really cool and keep me recording even through times of writer's block. Lots to do, just not enough wonderful time to do it all.

The song I'm currently working on recording still needs bass, drums, an electric guitar solo and some backing vocals. I think I can really get it done as long as I work on it each evening I'm free.
