My Scary Halloween Video #2

So what sort of impact will this tanked economy have on Halloween and its trick-or-treaters? I'm eager to discuss the ramifications of this situation, but this topic has nothing to do with the music of Exit World so I shall proceed no further on the subject.

Here is my 2nd scary video creation for Halloween. Hope you like it. Again, the image is simple; just slowing walking down a dark and empty hallway with softly glowing lights at the end. Nothing gruesome. The atmosphere is enough. Very creepy indeed.

What do you think? The music comes from Boards of Canada and the song is called "Color of the Fire." I had it playing backwards on the video. To be honest, the song is pretty creepy in its own right playing normally. Here's how it sounds:

Interesting thing is, the voice comes from a Sesame Street clip of a little girl writing out the words "I love you." Here is that segment:

As one comment states,"In its normal form it just sounds normal and innocent, yet in Color of the Fire it sounds distorted and creepy as hell." Very true. You can take something as simple, unassuming and innocent and turn it into something sinister and frightening through sound technology. Boards of Canada did it by adding delay, distorting the original audio and adding unsettling keyboard sounds. Amazing what can be done.

Autumn (A Sonnet)

Thought I would share a poem I wrote back in high school which I subsequently added music to and turned into a song. However, I have never been completely pleased with any recorded version of it and have intentions still of re-recording it to my liking.

Here is the poem, titled "Autumn":


Autumn is a time of long, chilly days
With grey skies and colored leaves all around
It's a time when we change our living ways
With all of the leaves flying to the ground

The squirrels are starting to store their food
And all of the trees are becoming bare
The weather leaves us all in a sad mood
And raking of leaves we all have to share

The harvests are ripe and ready to reap
They will be the final crops of the year
The piles of leaves down the street are quite steep
And the frightful sound of the wind we hear

Autumn's memories we'll keep when it's gone
Until the time of the new autumn's dawn.


The poem is a sonnet. It was an assignment for an English class. I actually wrote my first poem in 6th grade. I was in an 8th grade level reading class and there was a poetry contest. My contribution was titled "The Moon" and I actually won 2nd place if my memory serves me well. And for the life of me I cannot find a copy of this poem anywhere. I tend to save everything, yet I cannot find this one treasure. I remember that my entry was a very simple and unpretentious one. I wrote the words on a sheet of paper and drew and colored in a yellow moon in the background. That was it. And I won. That was my first confirmation that writing was one of the talents I was blessed with.

This poem, Autumn, I happened to also use in a Literature class in college. We had an assignment where we needed to present something to the entire class. So I read this poem aloud and then played my then-most recent recording of it to the class. Received pretty good feedback as well, as I did presented something wholly unique to the class.

I've never uploaded this song to YouTube so I can't add a link here. But maybe once I get around to it I will add a link to some audio so you can have an idea what it sounds like.

My Scary Halloween Video #1

I had created a few musical pieces/videos for the Halloween season. Here is the first of three I made and my personal favourite. It includes my own original music and a 'scary' video. I have always felt that atmosphere makes for scariness, and that 'gross' is not equivalent to 'creepy.'

It is 2 days shy of 3 years that I have uploaded this video to YouTube. And 1001 views in that amount of time. Nothing to write home about, but the fact that something original I made received that many views is pretty cool. So here is the video. Check it out and let me know what you think.

The music comes from the ending of one of my songs called "Erie's Song." I created the recording of the song to have an overall scary, lonely, dark, somber, unsettling, uneasy vibe to it. This particular part of the song features a sampled, heavily reverbed piano loop playing forwards and backwards along with some trailing reverb-heavy vocal and bowed acoustic bass.

New Song - Call On Me

Here is a song that I've been working on. It's heavily influenced by the Bee Gees sound and I was particularly inspired by their song "Run To Me." I was just messing around with my camera so I decided to do a live pseudo-performance and uploaded it to YouTube.

It was an impromptu 'live' version so I didn't even sing all the right lyrics. And when I have the actual recorded version complete it will feature a full band arrangement.
